Hello and thank you for subscribing! Welcome to ANNOYING BLONDES!
This non-fiction project seeks to celebrate the exhilaration of cultural consumption while uncovering the hidden mechanisms— the hive psychology, corporate interests, puppet strings— influencing culture from behind the scenes.
Social media has turned pop culture into an integral part of modern life, which means it is rife with opportunities to examine society through the stories we use to escape.
I identify first and foremost as a fiction writer, and live for any narrative that makes me feel as though I am drowning in emotion and/or dissociating. Fiction is mined from the subconscious of one person; pop culture is collaborative chaos, a power struggle between the creativity of the people and the institutions attempting to influence us.
So! With ANNOYING BLONDES I hope to connect with other skeptical consumers who find themselves following a trend, news story, or public personality off a cliff simply because it drives them to exhilaration, terror, envy, euphoria, or to the rare sublimity of feeling nothing at all. Reach out if there’s a specific pop cultural phenomena you’d like me to explore— I take requests!
