Blonde Affairs: Olivia Nuzzi
She loved his eyes, “blue as the flame.”
Yet another New Jersey icon.
Welcome to Blonde Affairs—a new recurring dispatch from the AB Office of Emergency Management, where we briefly cover a single blonde (“blonde” defined here) whose recent moves have rendered them a matter of civic relevance.
Blonde Affairs will hit your inbox on Saturday mornings from here on out.
I cannot think of a better blonde with which to begin this series…
from NYT profile
Olivia Nuzzi’s memoir, American Canto, is out next month.
In Jacob Bernstein’s NYT profile, “Olivia Nuzzi Did It All for Love,” she somehow manages to come across as extremely cool. Rendering yourself as such in a puff piece that precedes your memoir post-political scandal…it can’t be easy!
American Canto is an iconic title, if you ask me. Imagine the confidence needed to name your memoir this, emerging from such drama! The name recalls Ann Patchett’s lush novel Bel Canto, and last month’s fall-of-empire text American Pastoral). GLAM-O-METER OFF THE CHARTS.
In the before times, Olivia Nuzzi was New York Magazine’s Washington correspondant, who left once it was announced her coverage had been compromised by her affair with RFK Jr. She was engaged to another reporter at the time, Ryan Lazza, and they had a book deal together. RFK Jr. is famously married to Cheryl Hines.
Nowadays she is the West Coast editor of Vanity Fair, lives in a small house in Malibu, and listens to Nancy Sinatra while she drives in her convertible, beach hair tussled in the California wind, Celine sunnies on, chatting with a Times reporter. Her tell-all memoir is imminent. Chic!
“I had a healthy appreciation for the fact that what had happened was not purely a tragedy,” she tells Bernstein in the article. Imagine how lost in the sauce you have to be to fall in love with RFK? Being fired from that MAGA beat probably felt great. I imagine the severance did, too.
The concept of using the book deal you and your ex owed your publisher to produce a whole new book yourself, that documents your affair… sooo sauvage. Some girls have all the fun. I always appreciated Nuzzi’s aloof Twitter vibe and the way she gleefully abused her access to Trump. I remember wondering years ago while reading her coverage, did Trump have a humiliation kink? She’d sub him in print, and he kept letting her in. She’s MAGA type hot, you never know.
Mark my words, Nuzzi takeover imminent. Libs eat up any inside look into the Trump era, and her record says she’s good at delivering on that. I also think we’re living at a time where a Nuzzi type cult of personality is of interest to people. She is not a nepo baby, she did not grow up in DC. Her dad was a Sanitation worker, and her mom was an alcoholic with borderline personality disorder. And she’s from New Jersey… another icon for our bag. :D
America loves a girl who can push her way into a room. I’ve noticed, in the culture, that there is a new type of girlboss simmering. Many of them are on this app. Nuzzi fits into the category. Something I’ve been thinking about, but more on that soon…
American Canto (just wanted it to type it one more time) comes out December 2nd, and until then I’ll be snooping soo hard for a galley. PLEASE hmu if you get your hands on one. ✪

I have to make a little commotion for the excellent key art here
